Thanks alot. I had a great time. The whole race went with its' normal little problems. Panic set in up in the tower only a couple of times, and one of those was when I ran out of "refreshments".
Special thumbs up for the OIR track crew and Rogersville Fire and Rescue for their awesome and quick action on all of the mishaps this weekend. You guys were great. The down time was kept to a minimum as clean up crews mopped and broomed their butts off. And one more thanks to Floyd Sawyer who helped move injured vehicles with his roll back to the pit area. Fortunately, only pocket books and bank accounts were seriously injured this weekend. All of the drivers were protected by personal safety equipment, with the possible exception of my buddy Scoot Palmer. I have reason to believe his head may exceed the hardness of his helmet.
How about 23 cars in Drag Radial?!?!? What is going on there? That was a pretty exciting class this weekend. The first pair of cars in first round of the first class of the night ended with two beautiful cars in need of major reconstructive surgery and a couple of pairs of dirty shorts. That class also got the Wheelie From Hell award, and a possible third pair of striped shorts.
Small Tire Unlimited has what I think could be a new record. I need to have Daniel check and see if the rules have changed enough from the first original class to now. It could be a completely different setup, regardless Mark Micke went 4.69 in a car that probably had a little more in it.
Zach "the Kid" Barkledge went a 4.15 in the wee hours of the morning during a semi final pass showing the ole OIR surface was holding up much better than weary track personnel.
Jared Smith and the Air Force One jet dragster made a couple of very clean and very fast passes. That car always is a crowd pleaser. Thomas Frickensmidt made running 180+mph look easy. Gee and I remember when he was just kid running 140mph.
All in all if you weren't there...you missed out. Perfect weather, perfect crowd, perfect racers...ok I've done enough sucking up. It was a great time and we still have one more Shoot Out this year if you missed this one,...but you did miss a good one.
I hadn't really forgot anyone, I was still a little fuzzy from the weekend and unable to think clear.
There was a Camaro that pretty much dominated True 10.5. Ron VanMeter finished off the night with a 5.20 scalded dog run to take the win light. All these small tire guys are getting fast, some are just doing it with out wheelie bars.
Pro Street had Tim Albright taking the stripe with a Monte Carlo that was using a motor that equaled two 406 sbc. The mountain motor Monte proved too much for NOS and blower powered cars.
Donny Davidson really needed some competion in true radial. His little S10 didn't really have a fair fight all night long. I can think of 3 different Novas that were absent from that field. The little pick up just must have scared them off.
and just one more thanks to the girl that showed me hertatoo. thank you, thank you, thank you.
OK, now you,ve gone and made me upset PB. If you are going to have tatoo showings in the tower, you are going to have to share with staging!!! If we can't follow some simple rules up there, I'm going to send Dinger back upstairs to restore order.
