RPM magazine

Well, its now been well over 3 months since I paid for subscription to RPM magazine, and no I havent received any issues as yet. When I pay for something I expect to get it within a reasonable amount of time. What is the hold up? still moving? not a good way to do business if you ask me.

Hey Bob...tell you what.  How about you send me an email with your address so I can send you back your $20 bucks that you paid for your subscription.  That way, I don't have to manually look up your address from our subscriber files.

Also, since you decided to make your subscription a public forum, please let me add this -  I will be more than happy to sell you the rights to publish RPM Motorsport Monthly each and every month.

Yea, we are late going to press, and for that I apologize, but is seems that a fellow racer would be asking, "Hey, what can I do to help you out"..... Not -  "No a good way to do business"

It takes a community of racers to help make a motorsports publication survive, and to be perfectly honest, you are the 15th person that races on a regular basis at Ozark International that has purchased a subscription to RPM.  I spent the first year giving away issue after issue at OIR...Everybody was eager to receive a free issue, but when it came time to buy a subscription, the funds never came.  Is that your fault...no.  You took the time to talk with me and paid the money to subscribe, and for that I say thanks.

As for the moving...That was not a lie Bob...We did move our office to Springfield, and I am currently trying to make my mortgage payment and also make sure that my family has somewhat of a Merry Christmas by working for a friend in his business...When you work 50 hours a week and also take the time to try spend with your family, then it does take time away from other things.

Again, is this your fault Bob...No.  I just thought that since you decided to make this public, I felt you needed to know what is going on with my life.

You see Bob, I am not like all of the other newspapers or magazines out there...I am a person that is doing his best to survive in a sometimes unsurvivable world.  When you decided to make this public, over a $20 subscription, I took it personally. And I should take it personally, because without comments like yours, I would not really know how one of our FEW subscribers actually feel. However, a simple email to rpm@classicnet.net would have surficed.

Again Bob, I apologize to you and to the 14 other subscribers from Ozark International.

Just to let you know Bob, in order for us to continue publishing what I and a lot of others feel is a great publication, then we need the racing communities help. If we are not able to gain support in our own sport, then we will become just another comment like "Hey, do you remember that publication that used to cover motorsports....Man, I wish we still had that today"

Anyways Bob, like I said at the beginning, send me your address...or better yet, just post it here in the forum and I will get you your $20 back.

Have a Merry Christmas Bob and good luck racing next season!

Oh by the way, if you or anyone else is interested in purchasing the rights to RPM Motorsport Monthly, then by all means give me a CALL.  Maybe I can go to work for you and finally make a paycheck for the first time in four years!

EXCUSES!!!

Bob's a stand up guy and he's been asking for some time where his magazine is.  Sounds like you've got some issues but that isn't Bob's problem or anybody elses.

Have a Merry Christmas yourself!

An email from you Brett, would have been nice too, letting me know the status of whats going on. I never heard a word from you until I posted one month ago on this board, and then I never heard anything again until I posted again one day ago. You could look at it another way too, what if Bob the paper supplier or Bob the printing press supplier had promised paper or a new press to you 3 months ago and you had not heard from him, what would you do? wait or go to another supplier? You are not the only person that is/or has been in business for themselves,I too used to own a truck and made a damn good living at it until my wife passed away,I then sold it and went back to work in the public sector as I had to be home to raise my kids, and not doing to bad of a job doing it by myself either.. I wish I could go 4 years without a paycheck. Keep the money and the subscription Brett, sounds like you need it more than I do.  Merry Christmas to you and yours Brett.

Hey guys....

Before we jump down a guys throat, during the holiday season no less.... please stop and think. Do you really think Brett is doing this on purpose? That would be a great deal of work and money down the drain.

Does this suck? Yeah it does. Sucks for EVERYONE.

Brett has a lot of excuses he could post, but hasn't and most likely won't simply because he's a super nice guy. Brett has been taken advantage of in a BIG way over the past 3 months by a few local individuals. I know this for a FACT. I don't feel it's my place to make situations worse by posting it on a public forum though.

Comparing sob stories isn't going to get anyone anywhere... I'm as swamped and as broke as the next guy, I've got the patented ex-wife even, but I'm still taking time out to work with Brett on this and get things rolling again.

The good news is Brett's back at the bottom of the hole and hopefully has no where to go but UP.

BTW Bob - If I recall, I met you online by you insulted me when I started 100mphclub.com and posted it on Mokan's website. Said something about giving it up, cause it will never amount to anything more than a teenager site or something like that.

Just so you know we're getting ready to post our 3rd year's events calendar which includes renting out the dragstrip yet again and a minature Power Tour this summer.

Let's hear some words of encouragement.... and some spirit lifting.

Merry Christmas to everyone and safe racing!

Hi guys!  I am new to this site, and fairly new to the racing community, though I have thoroughly enjoyed many weekends this summer out at Rogersville.  You guessed it, I am Bob's younger sister.  And quite honestly, I can see where he might be a bit frustrated.  It appears to me that he paid for something that should have been in good faith, delivered months ago.  If you weren't ready to publish the magazine, then by all means, you should not have collected the money.  It's not the fault of the "15" racers that paid for this magazine that you can't seem to muster the funds in which to get it printed.  They were eager to "support" your magazine way back in September, however you have now let them down.

Holidays or not, it is NOT good business practice to take a man's money for an item that he purchases and then tell him that he is just 1 of 15 that were interested.  Truth be known, you should have had on hand 100 or more copies in which to sell up front, so the racers can actually SEE what they are getting!  Don't take their money months ago and then promise them something you can't even afford to create, and then to dog Bob for saying something and posting it on your site.  It appears to me that perhaps you might have made some sort of "I'm sorry this hasn't arrived yet" personal email to your 15 subscribers, so that this would not be made public.

It does appear as though you all have expenses that must be met, but it's simple business.  You pay for something, you expect to get it before 3 months.  Your business would never fly on Ebay!  Please don't get down on Bob for making this issue public.  If you had made a better effort to get ahold of him, or even posted a "delay" in printing on your site, this would and could have been eliminated.

Bob is a loyal racer at OIR, and I have seen him give a ton of his money to the track.  What I'd like to see happen from the outside looking in, is to have you make good on your magazine to smooth this over.  Bob is not the one at fault here.  Think about it.  If you weren't ready to hand the magazine out 3 months ago, you should NOT have taken their money at that time.

Sincerely,

Bob's Little Sister

Lori

Lori,

Thanks for the comments.  I do not feel that I personally am "getting down" on Bob at all.  I really like Bob and I agree 100% in that he should have the newest issue of RPM in his hands well before now.  I have never made any EXCUSES as to why RPM is not out yet.  It is MY Fault and MY Fault alone. All I was saying was since Bob decided to make this a public forum, I felt that I needed to respond.

With that in mind...I do not want you to get the wrong idea...RPM will soon begin it's THIRD year as a magazine.  The way you wrote in your thread, you made it sound like I collected $20 for each of the 15 members back in September and they have never received an issue.  Bob was the ONLY OIR regular to subscribe at the Street Machine Nationals. The other 14 sign ups were throughout the past two years.  Some of those members have already received their 12 issues.

Again, I am not trying to make EXCUSES as 40Coupe mentioned. I just thought that Bob had a right to know. I am sending Bob his $20 back and I will still honor his subscription.  If he doesn't want his money back, then I request that he donate the money to charity.

As for not making a paycheck in four years..Well, that is the truth...I made the decision to open Christian County's News Journal in 2001.  We had a great three years as a locally owned weekly publication in Christian County.  But, with the competition having the deepest pockets in the world (the owner of the parent company is James Walton - from the Wal-Mart Family), it made it hard to compete. I was only able to do this because my wife worked her tail off to make sure that we have been able to survive.

With RPM, we have a product that is unique...as there are no other publications like it in the midwest.  But, like I said in the other thread, RPM needs the support of the racing communities and as of this present time, we have not received it in the way we thought.  A local race track owner told me from the beginning that it would be hard to survive as a racing publication.  I told myself at that time that I thought it would.  He was right all along, it has been a struggle, but I am not ready to throw in the towel.  I know we have made some mistakes (especially at this current time) but we are hopefully in for the long haul.

Again, thanks for the opportunity to cover the world of drag racing, especially at Ozark International.  I have raced at OIR for the past 12 years, and I hope to continue racing for as long as I can strap myself into my car.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and here is hoping that 2005 will be a better and bigger year for you and for RPM.

Happy Holidays, Brett Adams - publisher  RPM Motorsport Monthly

Brett,

I'd like to take the time to thank you for your response.  It appears as though you are doing your best to get that publication out there.  I personally, will continue to support the drivers out at Ozark, and good luck to you with your future endeavors!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Lori

Merry Christmas fellow racers, Just adding "my two cents worth" (OK 20 bucks), I've been a subscriber since RPM Monthly was born and have really enjoyed it. Racing in this area is pretty much a 7 to 8 month sport, not much happening in November, December, January and February. If I had only received 8 issues per year, I would still have felt in was worth the money. A newspaper or racetrack connot survive without support. I am proud to have supported OIR and RPM since their birth and will continue as long as possible, I don't want to lose either one! To quote Rodney King "can't we all just get along".  GOD BLESS RACING AND AMERICA, See ya' at the Drags,  Jerry

I got one ? for all who fell that they have been screwed by Brett. How many of you waste  $20 or more a week on beer, and cigerettes and other vises.I know I waste a hell of alot more than  20 buck's on stuff like that. I know I am not the only one that ****es away 20 bucks a week on nothing, and just look at it like this you will be getting something more useful outta your 20 buck than a hangover or smokers cough.Yeah it will take time to get your papers, but good thing's come to those who wait!!!!!!

Just my thought's on this......I mean we need to support local small bussiness.

I guess I don't understand your post to me. Are you implying I'm hiding my name? Look up Paul Brown online or in the phone book. I bet there are more Paul Brown's then John Does. (I just looked it up for you, there are 7 John Does in MO and 70 Paul Browns. There are only 43 Bob or Robert Wests in MO.)

It just so happens "gcomfx" (which is my freelance and website name), "gcom" or "that 100mphclub" guy is what I'm called more often. It's my nickname. What's wrong with that? You can get my email address, home address, and my employment information by going to my website.:

http://gcomfx.com/pages/email.htm

Sounds like a BETTER plan to me, rather than having you look up Paul Brown and guess which one I am????

Also, are you implying I don't like you based on a comment you made to me in the past? Please cut me a little more slack than that. I don't judge people like that. I was just letting you know things aren't always the way you think they are or how you think they may turn out. No biggie. Just free information from me to you.

Again safe racing to you.... hopefully I'll see you at OIR this year. Now that I live in the area, I would like to try out the track. Stop by and say hi... You can't miss the car:

I was congratulating you on the success of your website Paul, nothing more nothing less. Then I was making a statement, I post using my real name.  I could have some anonymous screen name and make the statements I do,but I don't, I'm a stand up guy, will say whats on my mind, right or wrong, usually right in my mind :) then someone can make the choice to like me or not. People that know me, know where I'm coming from.

Hey Junior, I never thought I was screwed by Brett, wasn't sure how to get ahold of him though, I seemed to have got his attention with a post here, just as a short note on this site every couple weeks about the magazine would have had my attention. To make a comparison,if I order a part thru Summit Racing, I get post cards letting me know the status of my order or I can track it on Summits site, after seeing Brett and paying for the subscription at the SMN. I never heard a word,no email, no posts on this site about the status of the magazine, I got frustrated and posted two months after I had not received an issue, then I posted again a month after that.  The 20.00 doesnt bother me one bit, the status of my order or what I spent my money on, does.  I didnt see you  walking thru the fairgrounds throwing 20.00 bills around Jr. cuz I would have been scooping them up

Thanks for the clarification.
